Conclusion of DOLE-AKAP Cash Assistance for OFWs in Kuwait

Many OFWs in Kuwait were relieved to hear the news that the Philippines’ Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), would be providing cash assistance for overseas workers who were in no work no pay situation amid the pandemic crisis.

The program initially launched mid-April last year and urged qualified overseas workers to apply online. Ten thousand beneficiaries were initially allowed to receive US 200 or KD 61.500 from the DOLE’s “Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong” (AKAP- Reach Out to Help) financial aid.

However, Philippine Secretary of Labor Silvestre Bello III later said that the government had granted extra funding, thus allowing twenty thousand affected OFWs to benefit from DOLE’s cash assistance.
Many of our fellow overseas workers were hoping to be included in the list of beneficiaries.
As the quota of twenty thousand beneficiaries were reached and budget constraints, the DOLE-AKAP financial aid program had to be concluded.
The possibility of having a third batch of beneficiaries is not clear yet. However, as POLO announced, those whose names were listed will be the priority when it happens.
