Philosophy in life:
In the words of Lao Tzu– “Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.” 🙂

Tell us something random about yourself.

In a world where everyone is connected through text messaging, phone calls, emails, Facebook, etc. I still enjoy giving and receiving handwritten notes/ love letters. I have a small collection of stationery and I love writing with an old school fountain pen. 🙂

ABOUT YOUR BLOG

1. How, When and Why did you get into blogging industry?
Although my fashion & lifestyle blog was created on April 2010, I am not a newbie to the blogging world. I started blogging way back in 2004 and I would mostly write about my personal life. Eventually, I got really busy with school and a lot of other things so I was not able to maintain that blog. In 2010, I got into Photography and decided to create a blog where I can share my thoughts and the photos I’ve been taking. It just so happened that most of my “thoughts” are mostly about Fashion and so I am mostly well-known as a “fashion blogger” in Manila. 🙂

2. How you came up with the name for it?

Somnium et Vita means “Dreams and Life” in Latin. I wanted something that sounded unique and at the same time, something that relates to who I am. I’m a big dreamer and although I love shopping for new clothes, shoes and accessories, I make sure that I never lose sight of the more important things in life. Things that money can’t buy. 🙂

3. Do you blog for a job full time? What else do you do aside from blogging?

I actually have a degree in BS Nursing and I became a Registered Nurse on March 2010. I was a full time blogger for about a year and a half and then I moved to Kuwait to be with my family. Right now, most of my time is spent on reading books (as I plan to go back to school to obtain a Masters degree) and spending quality time with my family. I still blog a few times a week but not as much as I used to when I was a full time blogger. 🙂

4. Did you choose to start blogging directly about your chosen niche or because you just saw a good way to make money from blogging?

Even when I was a full time blogger in Manila, I never really earned money from what I was doing. I did get invites to a lot of press events, I was sent a lot of free stuff, got to meet new people, but I never looked at my blog as something that I could earn money from. I did it because I had fun doing it.Not because I was being given a lot of free stuff for it. I only help advertise companies/ products that I actually believe in, and I would never blog about a product that I’ve never tried or don’t really recommend to anyone.

5. How much time do you spend on work related to your blog(s) each week?

(When I was blogging full time) It really depends on what I’m blogging about– If it’s a blog post that has a lot of photos in it (for example, when I go to press events), it usually takes me about an hour to write the entry and also edit/upload the photos. If it’s about something that I want to share to my readers, it usually takes me more than an hour because I always make sure that I do a little bit of research before I blog about anything (whether it’s about a person, a place, or a product). If it’s just something short and sweet, I can do it in 15 minutes. Nowadays, I only get to spend about 2-3 hours each week to write an entry which explains why I only have about 2-3 blog entries each week as well.

6. What do you find to be your biggest struggle as a blogger?

I love blogging and I love sharing my thoughts, the photos I take, even my personal experiences– because I love the interaction that happens between me and my readers. So I honestly can’t think of any “struggles” that I’ve had as a blogger. 🙂

7. How does blogging help you, in terms of life and career?

Because of my blog, I got the chance to meet a lot of new friends, a lot of interesting people, celebrities both in showbiz and in the blogging scene! It really made my social life more interesting! It has even helped me discover a few things about myself that I didn’t know about. 🙂 Whenever I get upset or frustrated about something, I divert my attention in blogging or replying to comments/emails. There were days when blogging has helped me turn something negative into something positive, something creative, and something worthwhile. It has become my “escape”, and it really has made a huge impact in my life. So I guess I can say that blogging has definitely helped me become a better “me”. 🙂

8. How did you get to where you are now with your blog(s)? To what do you attribute your success? And what is the next goal you hope to achieve?

I guess it really helps if you blog about things that might be inspiring or beneficial to other people. I mentioned that back in 2004, I used to blog about my personal life but honestly, I thought that was a big mistake. All of us already have enough problems and sometimes, we don’t really have the time to listen to other people’s rants. What we need is something that can help take away the stress, something that might give us a solution, something that will encourage us to have a more positive outlook. 🙂 Of course my blog wouldn’t be “successful” if it weren’t for all the people who followed it, and still visit it even when I don’t get to post a new entry! 🙂 The next goal that I hope to achieve for my blog is to have more sponsors so that I can host a blog giveaway more often. 🙂

9. Where do you see your blog(s) and yourself in 5 years?

I see myself (hopefully) living a successful and happy life in 5 years. Not that I don’t live a happy life at the moment, but I am still on my way to fulfilling my dreams. So hopefully in 5 years time, I would’ve already achieved most of my goals. 🙂 and my blog would probably be filled with photos, stories and I’ll most probably be showing off a new camera.

10. One of the hardest things for beginner bloggers is getting traffic. What tips can you give bloggers to drive traffic to a new blog?

It helps when you have a lot of friends. Because back then, the only people who read my blog were my family and friends. They would share a link to my blog whenever they get to read something that interests them and then eventually, that link spreads to their friends and their friends’ friends. It’s also a good thing to visit other blogs and interact with other bloggers because it’s a chance for them to click on your name/URL and visit your blog as well. 🙂

11. What advice would you give to new bloggers wanting to start blogging and help them start out on a path to success?

Blog from the heart. 🙂 Don’t blog for the sake of money or fame. Although people nowadays actually do blog for income, but whatever reason you have for blogging- make sure that you become a responsible blogger. Don’t share information that you are not 100% sure of.

 12. Describe your blog in 10 words.

A blog created to entertain, inspire, empower, and delight you.
