Ramadan and Medical Conditions

Fasting during Ramadan is an obligation only for healthy adults but not for pregnant women, those with illness, or those under medication. Ramadan fasting also exempts children under the age of nine (9) and women with monthly periods.

Those who go regularly to the gym to exercise, are advised to do so after they break the fast or after “Iftar” (evening meal) when they have revitalized their strength. “Yoga” can be an alternative to exercise, however, because it allows the person to relax and meditate.

Smoking is also to be avoided during fasting as it is considered to be taking something into one’s body. This can be done after “Iftar” as well.
