A Friend’s Homecoming 3

During our first night as a family here in the Philippines, we went out to buy some baby stuff in the next town (they have a newly opened supermarket with reasonable prices) and my immediate reaction was to get my wallet where my Civil ID is. But when my aunt handed me peso bills, it was then that I realized there’s no need for the Civil ID because I am in the Philippines!

Sometimes I dream that I am still at the office with mudir (boss) giving me tons and tons of work! Only to wake up at the sound of uncle’s TV because my son is already watching an English cartoon channel. In the next few days, we attended our friends’ wedding in Malate and stayed in Antipolo with my wife’s aunt.  Then it’s back to my hometown.

My older brother is a mobile teacher to our native Aetas. One time I went with him to the boondocks and was amazed by the simplicity of the Aetas’ life. It was a learning experience for me.

My son is enjoying his time with relatives and every morning he waits for my uncle to take him for a stroll in nearby areas. He knows plenty of coordination and kiddy games now. Honestly, if I could just find a job that can give me a salary like the one I have in Kuwait, I would rather stay here in the Philippines and build our family dreams.

Do not get me wrong. I am thankful to Kuwait for the opportunity to work and live there, but surely you will agree that there is no place like home. We are looking forward to Christmas and New Year here in the Philippines and we are returning to Kuwait in early January.
