The fish symbol ichthys (ixthus, icthus) was already used by Christians during the first century. Ichthys means fish in Greek, and its letters are also the initials of five Greek words that mean “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior” (Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter). Our Lord Jesus Christ told His disciples “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” in Matthew 4:19.
During the early days of Christianity, the believers of Christ were persecuted and cannot practice their faith openly and so, a fish symbol on the door of a home means that fellow Christians can meet there and say prayers. The fish symbol is also similar to the first letter of the Greek alphabet, Alpha which means, first. In Revelation 22:13 Christ says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”
The anchor was an early Christian symbol of the hope we have in Christ after our earthly life. As Hebrews 6:19-20 states, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
The gold color symbolizes wealth, good health, optimism, courage, confidence and willpower. The green color means life, nature, renewal, growth, health and our environment. It also projects calmness and rest just like its neighbor blue.
Diary ni Gracia, a soft place to land for the battle weary OFW…this is what was foremost on my mind when I started to blog. I am an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) living away from my loved ones, in order to support them while simultaneously trying to achieve my dreams. Most, if not all OFWs are like myself, doing a lot of sacrifices for the people they hold very dear to their hearts.
I have always hoped and tried my best to make my blog some place where a visitor will be able to get not only useful information about expat living, most especially here in Kuwait, but inspiration as well strength to always keep the Faith, no matter what happens, have unconditional love for our families in the Philippines and to be of service to fellow OFW kabayans.
