CORONAVIRUS: KUWAIT OFW QUARANTINE DAY #87 – The Arrival of Medical Assistance

“Compassionate people are geniuses in the art of living, more necessary than dignity, security, and joy of humanity than the discoverers of knowledge.”

Albert Einstein

Every country has its COVID-19 situation. However, it does not mean that it will fight the health crisis alone. Sometimes, it is necessary to receive assistance from other countries to improve the country’s treatment to their coronavirus patients.

In Kuwait, the Ministry of Health registered 487 new COVID-19 cases with ten additional deaths and 1,005 recoveries. It brings to a total record of 31,131 cases with 254 fatalities and 19,282 recovered cases. Within the new cases, 195 are Kuwait citizens, 81 are Egyptian residents, 67 are Indian residents, and 47 are Bangladeshi residents. In the governorates, there are 155 in Al Farwaniya, 138 in Al Ahmadi, 85 in Al Jahra, 69 in Hawally, and 40 in the Capital. Among the residential areas, Al Farwaniya is the highest with 50 reported cases.

Compared to yesterday’s report, the new number of cases decreased. I am relieved with the results for Kuwait is starting to tilt the epidemic curve downward.

COVID-19 Situation in the Country

A piece of saddening news came after two employees from the Al-Rigga Cooperative Society died due to coronavirus infection. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the employees. They have served the country well as they maintain the availability of essential commodities that the community needed.

In the Shuwaikh area, Kuwait’s labor team conducted a campaign on the company’s warehouses as they ensure their compliance with the health requirements suggested by the health authorities. I am glad that they are encouraging these warehouses to follow the guidelines. In the end, this is all for the welfare and health safety of the personnel and the community.

The Arrival of Medical Brigade

I am very grateful for the country of Kuwait for medical assistance from another country finally arrived. The Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, announced the arrival of 300 medical staff from the Republic of Cuba. These Cuban nurses and doctors will assist the country in dealing with the cases caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Individually, they will work in the intensive care department.

Arrival of Cuban Doctors and Nurses in Kuwait

The medical brigade visited many countries globally. One of those countries is Kuwait, as the government signed the memorandum of understanding to allow assistance with their individual experiences in the medical field. The whole team will remain in the country for six months.

The Kuwait authorities will grant special visas for the Cuban health delegation. As they arrived at the Kuwait International Airport, private buses will transfer them, as they will take medical smears to all its following members. After the medical examination, the buses will transport them to the assigned places designated by the Ministry of Health.

Arrival of 300 Cuban Medical Staffs in the Airport

The Cuban Ambassador in Kuwait, Hoseluez Noroega, expressed that his gratitude and happiness for the country received 300 Cuban medical personnel prepared to assist the medical frontliners in Kuwait against the infectious coronavirus. He noted that this collaboration signifies the strong relations between Cuba and Kuwait.

I commend the collaboration of both countries in assisting Kuwait in its fight against the COVID-19 health crisis. It is indeed an honor for the state to receive the medical aid provided by the Cuban government. It will be a great help to the healthcare facilities. Considering that the country’s epidemic curve is going downward, it can speed up the process.

Today marks the 74th day of the curfew and the 7th day of the government’s first-phase plan. I thank both countries for cooperating closely. In this coronavirus pandemic, nothing is more substantial than helping each other.

Successful Return of OFWs

Update of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines on June 6, 2020

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported eight new COVID-19 cases of Overseas Filipinos with two additional deaths and 13 recoveries. It brings to a total tally of 5,369 cases with 363 fatalities and 2,225 recovered cases. Around the world, 2,781 Filipinos are undergoing treatment in which 265 is in the Americas, 454 is in Europe, 155 is in the Asia Pacific, and 1907 in the Middle East/Africa.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) reported that they successfully sent 31,700 stranded Overseas Filipino Workers in quarantine facilities to their respective provinces. From June 1 to June 5, 2020, they transported 6,700 displaced Filipino workers, according to OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac. While from May 25 to May 31, 2020, they sent 25,002 OFWs back home. Within the number, they transported 385 of them by sea, 7,900 by land, and 9,595 by air. It became successful through chartered flights, voyages, and buses.

It is good that many stranded OFWs managed to get home after the Philippine government gave its efforts in returning them home. As my fellow Filipino workers face the threat of coronavirus, they are reunited with their families at last.
