CORONAVIRUS:KUWAIT OFW QUARANTINE DAY #60 – A Great Surge in COVID-19 cases

Compared to the recent days, the country of Kuwait is alarmed because of the abrupt increase of its new number of COVID-19 cases. This Sunday of May 10, 2020, Kuwait has recorded their highest number of cases within a day. The Kuwait Ministry of Health has reported 1,065 new cases with 9 deaths and 107 recoveries. It brings to a total tally of 8,688 cases with 58 deaths and 2,729 recoveries in the country. There are 114 cases in the intensive care unit, in which 45 are critical and 69 are in stable condition. Within the cases, 192 are Kuwaitis, 244 are Indians, 271 are Egyptians and 143 are Bangladeshi. In the governorates, there are 99 cases in Capital, 237 in Hawally, 214 in Ahmadi, 450 in Farwaniya and 65 in Jahra.

Today is also the first day of the total lockdown in Kuwait. With the implementation of the lockdown, supermarkets are full of people as these residents continue to buy food and their necessities in order to survive.

Due the report about this sudden increase of new cases and failure to comply with the health requirements, the Minister of Health Dr. Basel Al-Sabah has announced that the implementation of total ban will be extended until the end of May. The change of plan in the duration of the curfew is based on medical statistics and report. The curfew will now be implemented for three weeks. With that, the government has great faith to the community in defeating this pandemic before the Eid Holidays, which is the period after Ramadan.

Furthermore, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs at Ministry of Health Dr. Buthaina Al-Mudhaf emphasizes the importance of staying home and abiding the rules of home quarantine. She warns that any violators against the guideline will receive severe penalties.

The DOLE-AKAP Program has been providing financial assistance of 200 US dollars to the Overseas Filipino Workers in the State of Kuwait. Because of the implemented 3-weeks lockdown by the government, they will temporarily stop and resume on May 31, 2020.

Advisory of Philippine Embassy in Kuwait

On top of that, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait has informed the Filipino community that the international airport of Kuwait will continue its operations during the total lockdown from May 10, 2020 to May 30, 2020. One must bring their valid passport and a copy of their air ticket to present to the authorities in case they are stopped along the way. One person is only allowed to accompany the passenger. With the reopening of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila to international flights, inbound commercial flights are allowed to land on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from the period of May 11, 2020 to June 10, 2020. For any information about its changes, one is advised to coordinate with their airline or travel agency

In the Philippines, there are 184 new COVID-19 cases for May 10, 2020 with 15 new deaths and 82 recoveries. It brings to a total of 10,794 cases with 719 confirmed deaths and 1,924 new recoveries. Compared to the new cases yesterday, it has increased.

Update of COVID-19 cases in Philippines at May 10, 2020

In terms of international flight arrivals in the Philippines, it is reported that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport will resume its service on Monday of May 11, 2020. Chartered and commercial planes are scheduled on specific days. However, it only operates on limited capacity. Furthermore, inbound international charted flights are allowed during Mondays and Thursdays while international commercial flights are allowed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It is done to further control the COVID-19 virus while allowing continuous supply of basic necessities for the community.

This Sunday marks the 48th day of the curfew and the 17th day of the Ramadan. Philippines has a total of 10,794 cases while Kuwait has 8,688 cases. However, we must all stay calm and cooperate with the government during these times.
