CORONAVIRUS:KUWAIT OFW QUARANTINE DAY #57 – Another day, Another fight

The country’s battle for COVID-19 pandemic continues as doctors and nurses put their lives on the line. Fortunately, the new number of cases on May 07, 2020 has decreased when compared to the recent days. This Thursday, the Kuwait Ministry of Health has reported another 278 new COVID-19 cases with 2 new deaths and 162 recoveries. It brings to a total of 6,657 cases in the country with a record of 44 deaths and 2,381 recoveries.  In the daily briefing of the Health Ministry spokesperson Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, he said that 39 patients are currently critical and 91 patients are under the intensive care unit.

Within the new cases, there are 80 Indian residents, 60 Kuwait citizens, 41 Bangladeshi residents, 34 Egyptian residents and the rest are from other nationalities. There are 50 cases located in the Capital, 56 cases in Hawally, 55 cases in Ahmadi, 97 cases in Farwaniya and 20 cases in Jahra. It is important to stay vigilant within these areas. As the new cases decline, it gives hope to the local community in sustaining the virus.

Furthermore, the implementation of the total ban or curfew in Kuwait will soon be addressed by the cabinet this May 10, 2020. However, it still has not been formally decided. For support, the security forces of the nation are fully prepared to execute once these orders are confirmed and applied.

On top of that, a Kuwaiti specialist physician Osama Al-Enezi said that this 14-day total lockdown is a huge step forward in confronting the rapid spread of the virus. According to experts, the epidemic curve of COVID-19 cases is expected to reach its highest peak at the end of May. In recent, these cases came from the large population of expat workers. However, there are still Kuwaiti citizens, who continue unlawful family gatherings despite in this period of Ramadan.

A report of “Kabayanihan” has inspired the hearts of the kitchen workers as food packs are given to them especially to the ones affected with the quarantine from Pinoy Chefs Solidarity group in Kuwait.

Back in the Philippines, another 399 new cases are added to the tally with 27 new deaths and 112 new recoveries. It brings to a total of 10,343 COVID-19 cases in the country with 685 confirmed deaths and 1,618 successful recoveries.

In the country’s efforts to combat the virus, anti-flu medication Avigan will soon be used to treat 100 Filipino coronavirus patients in testing its efficacy against the disease. On top of that, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire announced that a free supply of it will be given to the Phillippines in the coming days. As of now, the said drug is being formally trialed as a treatment. Clinical trials also suggest its role in shortening the patient’s recovery time.

This Thursday is the 47th day of the curfew and 15th day of the Ramadan. Kuwait has a total of 6,657 cases while the Philippines has 10,343 cases. As the authorities impose new strategies to lessen the spread of the virus, medical researchers around the world are also racing to find the treatment and vaccine to this pandemic. Following their implemented guidelines will be a great contribution in making this world a better place.
