Located in Southeastern Central Europe, Romania measures 92,043 sq. miles or 238,391 sq. km. With a recent population of 19.9 million, its largest cities are Bucharest (1.8 M), Iasi (322,000), Cluj Napoca (309,000),Timisoara (303,000), Constanta (298,000), Craiova (295,000), Galati (286,000), Brasov (275,000), Ploiesti (224,000), Braila (205,000), Oradea (196,400).

Its capital is Bucharest. Romania has 320 cities and towns and 12,956 villages. Main Ethnic Groups: Romanian 84%, Hungarian 6.1%, Gipsy 3.1%,German 0.2%, Ukrainian 0.2%. There is no official religion although most of the population practice Christian Orthodox 81%, Roman Catholic 4.3%, Reformed 3%, Greek-Catholic 0.7%, Unitarian 0.3%, Jewish, other denomination.

Romanian, its official language is a Romance language, belonging to the Italic branch of the Indo-European language family, having much in common with languages such as French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Their currency is Leu and Lei in plural form.

Its climate has four distinct seasons with variations of being continental. Because of its position on the southeastern portion of the European continent, Romania has a climate which ranges from temperate to continental. Summers are generally very warm to hot, around 29 °C (84.2 °F), while Winters are quite cold, with average highs even in lower-lying areas being no more than 3 °C (37.4 °F) and below −15 °C (5 °F) in the highest mountains.

Romania is a semi-presidential democracy and is a member state of the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO.

    When I hear of Romania, I somehow remember Harry Potter series because, well, as far as I know, the environment of Romania is similar to that of what was shown in HP movies. 🙂
