The How

Dear Kabayan,

I am deeply pleased to have been selected as the ‘Outstanding OFW and Balikbayan Reputation Award’ (OBRA) second is as ‘Winner for the Interactive Media Award,’ one of the second Migration Advocacy and Media Awards chosen by the Commission on Overseas Filipinos (CFO).

This year’s awardees were chosen for having raised public awareness on issues on Filipino migration, advocated the cause of Filipinos overseas, and promoted a positive image of Filipinos overseas, and migration and development. The panel of judges for the Awards is headed by CFO with members from the different migration and media institutions, which include Philippine Migrants Rights Watch, Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Presidential Communications Operations Office, National Press Club of the Philippines, International Association of Business Communicators, UP College of Mass Communication, and Blas Ople Center.

The Awarding Ceremonies of OBRA will be on December 7, 2012 at SM Mega Trade Hall 12 in the afternoon and by the CFO, which will form part of the annual celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and International Migrants Day for 2012, will be on December 18, 2012, 6:00 pm at SSS Magsaysay Hall, Quezon City.

I would like to express my appreciation, however, not just for this award, but for the hard work of everyone in this room…in this life…work that has put me in the position to stand before you today. We are only as good as those around us. I feel  so special  to be surrounded by different folks of the most talented people in this field.

When I found out about this award a days ago only, I called special people who built me up and helped me in this gift. Blogging asked me what I was going to say today. I didn’t have an answer… kept asking, and I still didn’t have a good answer. (pause) That is, until at this very moment. As many of you know, I am a very simple type of person. Last night, I was at the backyard…of my life…where I only saw people who built me up to reach these special awards. (pause) I can only thank God for the wonderful people who are part of this….as you probably also know, if you really know me well, I’m the soft type of person ( got this little smile and tear). I asked God again and felt the answer… this is an unexpected gift for my birthday, year end and New Year.

Happy to be part of a team called Filipino Communities, in good times and in bad where I’ve faced several challenges on my way here, but each has only strengthened me to make me the person I am today; special people  know exactly what I want; sets my eyes on a goal and do not take them off it unless it is achieved. These awards could not have been achieved without the inspiration… Forums for OFW  for whom I have deep gratitude, and from whom I have derived the strength to challenge myself and perform better at each stage…and some are already here in Kuwait…with service, love and dedication.

No words can explain only tears in my eyes just flow down like rain that overlies my heart now and deeply waters my soul. The feeling really can’t be expressed.

I can’t express my excitement and inspiration with these awards. Then, in the years of my unclouded childhood I couldn’t imagine how interesting my life would be. Of course, I faced a lot of challenges but I succeeded to overcome them and gained outstanding experience. While entering the blogosphere, I’m not yet with the community, It is my character which was built up then as years passed by and with OFW and community,  I had to overcome professional difficulties and personal storms of life and learned my lesson well.
I believe that six qualities which brought me to this stage… These qualities include the go grow and go, the demonstration of potential and capacity to grow under corresponding circumstances. I also tried to create the climate in which people are motivated to excel and grow, so that they were engaged into OFW life  and contributed their best. Thus, I focused on the people. I share to Kabayans to be selfless in achieving goals that will benefit the whole organization. I was an intentional learner, who concentrated on self-improvement and encouraged it in others. I shared to my co-OFWs  to be courageous in taking well-reasoned risks and embracing productive conflict, showing fair and modest life in gathering input and investigating what we are here for. And certainly, I followed  some shared instructions  of people ahead of me. But I should tell you that throughout my life I always meet people who are so inspired, talented or skilled.  I am always open to new initiatives, new people, and new cooperation as well critiques be it good or bad. I think it is the pledge of life as an OFW today, because the world is changing so rapidly that we can fail to keep abreast. Sharing is beneficial today. So, guided by this principle I always take the best qualities of leaders of Filipino communities, Kabayans  around are far cleverer than some might think. You only have to listen and watch attentively.

I want to express my deep gratitude to our Heavenly father, my family specially and everyone I work with community projects  to make our operation successful.  Maraming Salamat!
